R. Richard Bittner (Davenport) YMCA
The Hub On The Mississippi
As with many YMCAs, the Downtown Davenport YMCA has a long history. Since its first building in 1858, the affiliate has had a succession of structures – and it was time to enter the 21st century with the R. Richard Bittner YMCA.
This Y overlooks the Mississippi River and the building design takes advantage of the view. But it’s hardly a place to sit and watch the barges go by. Across 73,000 square feet on three levels, the facility has two pools, a full size gymnasium, weight and cardio fitness sections, an indoor track, group exercise spaces, plus community rooms for programs and partnerships. Additionally, it’s situated next door to an early childhood education center. It’s truly a hub for the community on physical, social, and intellectual development levels.
Gro served as the principal architect of the building’s modern design, working with Studio 483 architects, IMEG (engineering design), and Russell Construction. Collaboration with local architects-of-record, engineers, and construction firms allows us to combine national YMCA standards with local expertise.
